Following a tender the Information Technology Centre of Lower Saxony (izn) on behalf of the Land of Lower Saxony awarded Fabasoft the contract for the introduction of a central document management and workflow processing system (DMS).
Further to a proposal put forward by Interior Minister Uwe Schünemann the cabinet decided to introduce electronic file processing at up to 35,000 workstations in the regional administration. This represents a key measure in the eGovernment Master Plan resolved by the Land of Lower Saxony in 2005 which features the implementation of around 100 online services and internal administrations services by the year 2014.
The pilot phase will start in five departments: the Environment Ministry, Finance Ministry, Ministry of the Interior and Sport (MI), Consumer Protection and Food Safety Agency and the izn. The pilot operation is planned for eleven departments in total in Lower Saxony.
In the first phase the Fabasoft eGov-Suite will be licensed for 2,500 users. Following the successful pilot phase it will be extended step-by-step to provide ubiquitous operation of the workflow processing software Fabasoft eGov-Suite in the Lower Saxony administration. The launch project will be led by the MI. The central operation of the Fabasoft eGov-Suite will be handled at the izn in Hannover. The authorities using it are connected via the area data network (iznNet).
Besides the licensing of the software Fabasoft will also be providing services that are related to the software introduction, such as the integration of specialist applications and data migration. The Fabasoft eGov-Suite also provides interfaces requested by Lower Saxony for long-term electronic storage.
